Matthew Mezzacappa holds a MFA in Musical Theatre Writing from NYU.
He wrote book and lyrics for the award-winning musical Jennifer the Unspecial with composer Cynthia Chi- Wing Wong. Jennifer the Unspecial, about 4 eighth-graders who time-travel, has been published by YouthPlays and been fully produced three times, including under an Actors’ Equity contract.
He also co-founded the Instant Musicals group at NYU, which writes, stages and performs new musicals in under 2 hours. He wrote a short play, Singing in the Shower, but couldn’t help having the characters sing at times, making it a mini-musical. He has composed standalone Bob Dylan/musical theatre-inspired songs but hasn’t written instrumental music since high school.
He wishes to thank Composers Collective for being such a wonderful group, and especially Kit and Deborah for introducing him to the group and its marvelous musical challenges.
